Welcome

I am a photographer and writer based in Salem, Oregon. These vivid color and black and white photographs are sold as fine art prints and published in Frommer's Travel Guide Books; magazines such as Birder's World, Birds & Blooms, Northwest Travel, Bugle, Nature Photographer, and Wyoming Wildlife; the Oregon Natural Desert Association calendar,  as well as exhibited at juried venues such as the Oregon Salon of Photography annually and the North American Nature Photographers Association exhibit at the Colorado Mountaineering Club in 2006. Writing publications include  Nature Photographer magazine, Northwest Travel magazine, and Joe Van Os Photo Safaris Online.

I hope you enjoy the photographs presented on this site. They are the result of countless hours in pursuit of a passion for photography and a love for travel, often to the wild and natural places of our planet. I hope that through these photographs others will feel a connection with nature and be inspired to notice and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us and to visit and help protect our few remaining wild places on this planet. I strive to interpret, rather than merely document, with my photography. I hope you find that to be evident.

All of the photographs on this web site are available as fine art prints. Prices are available under the Store icon. These images are a small sampling of the twenty thousand stock images available to editors or stock agencies interested in publishing photographs. All images are protected by copyright and any use of these images without my permission can result in some pretty hefty federal penalties so don't be naughty and lift any of these images for your private use.

Artist's Statement: "I never feel so alive, so 'in the moment', as when I have a camera in my hand. Looking for photographs opens my eyes to the beauty around me that I might otherwise walk right past in my hurry to 'get somewhere'. When I have a camera I have an excuse to linger and appreciate where I am (BE where you ARE). I have learned in my life that destinations are false goals and the journey is what life is really all about. When I am photographing I sometimes never reach my original destination because I am enjoying what I'm finding along the way too much. More and more I am also striving to go beyond documentation; to spend the time and make the connection with my subject that results in a more personal, interpretive photograph through the use of controlled depth of field, creative blurs and cropping, and, in the case of animals, to capture those intimate moments in their lives when they have forgotten or forgiven my presence and are relaxed and acting naturally."

     Thank you for visiting.

"What we do best or most perfectly is what we have most thoroughly learned by the longest practice, and at length it falls from us without our notice, as a leaf from a tree."

                                                                         Henry David Thoreau
